They also need to look at closing all the irrelevant military bases overseas. Each Base Realignment and Closure round seems to concentrate on closing domestic bases rather than those overseas which hurts local economies. Bring some of the military assets home and protect our own borders.

I agree that the State Department is too big (as is nearly every department in government), but I also wonder why Iraq needs the worlds largest embassy. There has to be something other than diplomatic functions being conducted at an embassy that large. What this really is, is the largest CIA post in the Middle East.
