Admitting that you do in fact have a problem is the first step in recovery, however I have read other posts after and you have alot of work to do. I think you enjoy being a jerk, and you actually do it so well, but then you have had years of practice.

"Members of Congress are elected at the local and state level, but govern at the federal level. Bringing home the bacon and name recognition gets them re-elected."

LOL That explains why so many raise money to get their name out there and recognized in the first place.

Tell us Phil did you vote for someone you did not recognize or know?

Enigma I don't know because I am not the one saying we should reduce the size of government. I CAN NOT GET YOU STATE WHAT THAT SIZE IS. You do a Phil and give a generality.

Enigma since I'm the bad guy that uses crude terms to describe leftist parasites, Carlitos is a thief as are most liberals. It seems to be their*******ideology, it's their right, they really see nothing wrong with it as long as it's done by the left. .

"Maybe the answer is not to have a House of Representatives" -Chuck

No, but repealing the 17th Amendment would be a good start. That amendment changed the Federal Government into a Central Government by eliminating the representation of the state governments. Returning that power to the states would go a long way toward reining in the behemoth that is our so-called federal government.

Ritty, that’s why I’d like to see our present tax system replaced with a consumption or sales tax with a floating rate pegged to the cost of government. You’d see a major change in political rhetoric if voters had to pay for government in real time.

I copied the first line then pasted it to Google search engine. It took me to the letter, all of the letter. No window coming asking me if I was a subscriber or did I want to be. -Chuck

You have just confessed to theft of services. The paper's failure to guard against such an act does not excuse your use of a paid service for which you have not paid. I guess that a person who thinks that having the government take from those who earn to give to those who do not, would not see the problem with stealing intellectual property. If you want to read the paper, buy the paper. I think that the letters to the editor should be a public service, but I don't own the paper so I will abide by their rules. I guess that's just the conservative in me.

A balanced budget requirement and a reformed tax code that makes everybody pay at least some toward the government they elect would help reduce the size and scope of government.

As it is now, a record number of people can vote for whoever promises the most without having to worry about paying for it. Even the elected officials themselves don't worry about the costs. They routinely and knowingly spend money that will exceed the debt limit, then use the excuse that they have to pay for that spending to increase the debt limit.

The way both established parties fight the Tea Party shows they have zero interest in getting the government and its costs under control.

"In other words you don't know the size." - Chuck

OK Chuck, What is the right size? You seem to think you know. If you're saying it isn't too big, that would presuppose that you know how exactly how big it should be. I'll bet you don't even know how big it is, but you'd have us all believe that you know it isn't too big. Give me a number Chuck. How many people should work for government?

You should be asking why people generally have a low opinion of Congress and not attack voters for re-electing their representative. -Chuck

Chuck, it's pretty obvious why voters have a low opinion of Congress. They just don't like admitting their representative is part of the problem. Going by your logic, Congressional Republicans can't be the problem because their constituents put them in office. LoL
