Fair enough, John. But I suggest you choose your words more carefully and not "dare" the reader to find "someone" who finds this country exceptional, whatever his or her definition of that is. Enjoy your day.

The belief that America is an exceptional country is different from what scholars refer to as "American Exceptionalism". Yes, America is an exceptional country, but in the same way that all countries are exceptional. American exceptionalism is the belief that the United States is qualitatively different from other nation states. That's quite different. It's the belief that God favors America more than God favors other nations. Other countries are more like the US than you might imagine—people enjoy their freedom and liberty, just as we do. They work, raise families, elect their leaders, bicker about their perceptions of their leaders' incompetence, just like here in the USA. I take it you've never lived somewhere else, though, or you would have said so. Perhaps you can ask one of your immigrant friends to speak up on the issue? I suggest you do a little more reading, Ritty, Google and Wikipedia are a good place to start…

You said "someone." That means one. And I didn't say all of them, but surely there's a few immigrants who believe America to be an exceptional nation. Therefore, your statement and your follow-up are both false. Your lack of critical thinking skills and the assumption that others also lack these is commonplace.

"That explains the lack of people immigrating (legally and illegally) to this country, I guess."

And you assume this means they all believe in American Exceptionalism? Your lack of worldview is distressing…

Again with "American Exceptionalism". It must be high on the list of conservative propaganda talking points this week… Rather than retype my feelings on this nonsense, see my comments on the previous letter, "America is exceptional" from a couple of days ago.

I dare you to find someone who believes in 'American Exceptionalism' who has lived in another country for any length of time in a non-military capacity.

The letter is biased and your argument is we so are you. Talk about a stupid look on their face, take a good look in the mirror Premier! Funny how you all harp on my bias while showcasing yours.

Bias -prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.

That would ALSO be you Charles just like I said. Know get that stupid look off your face and smile for a change.

Clearly Premier you don't know what bias is, which is very understandable because you are as bias as the Mr. Goldsmith.

Tinhead "Now I will have to get in contact with 'Webster' and tell them to change the definition of "STUPIDITY"

If you're looking for an example of "STUPIDITY" find a mirror.

Why not Shulski? You guys claim your the "only ones" who care about people.

It works both ways doesn't it?

"Talk about bias this writer is clearly bias."

And Charles is more apt to agree with Conservative views rather than oppose them in his LTE's?

I will have to read between the lines from now on and not take anything for granted.

Mercury said:

"I'm a 'liberal' and I love my country and how we came out of a "depression" in 2009!"

According to most economists, we exited the recession in June 2009....long before any of Obama's policies were implemented.

That means the recession was ended by Bush's policies and we have been limping along with the weakest recovery on record for 5 years of Obama's policies.

So working hard just "naturally" makes you a Republican?-Shulski

I also caught this little gem. I have noticed through the years that almost everything considered "Good"(a good Christian, law abiding, Moral, family oriented, Patriotic, + many more)are "claimed" by the Conservatives. Then by default, everyone else is the polar opposite. Just something I have taken notice to, hope that explains/makes it easier for you to understand(some people's way of thinking). Have a Great Day!!-Scott

Mr. Goldsmth nice try! Hey,I'm a 'liberal' and I love my country and how we came out of a "depression" in 2009! I know of one 'award' the S/G should have got, "The Brainwashing" award but, I do give them an "a" for effort. When I do find a S/G before someone throws it in the garbage, where it really belongs I go for the "cartoon page" because I find more 'intelligent' writing on that page! Your letter is 'bias' and so is the S/G and people with commonsense ie: Democrats know this for a FACT! The S/G is a 'partisan' newspaper, now tell me I'm wrong?

Politics mirrors professional sports, when a player does something heinous (beating a woman, involved in murder, etc) the fans give them a pass.....all for the sake of the team.

In politics, it seems we give those on our "team" a pass for bad ethics and morals as well....all for the sake of "winning".

America used to be the greatest country on earth. We could be again, but only if enough people insist people be held accountable for their moral behavior ethics. Too many of us have become insensitive to the bad behavior of others and would rather make excuses for them than tell them they are wrong.
