Campus Theatre to host official Oscar event

February 21, 2008 - By M. CORRELL — mcorrell@sungazette.com
LEWISBURG — Lights! Camera! Lewisburg!

The Lewisburg Campus Theatre will feature its first ever Oscar Night on Feb. 24 to present the 80th Academy Awards.

The event is one of only 52 official parties sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that will be held across the country on Oscar Night.

This is the 15th year the Academy and ABC have cooperated with local charities to support official Oscar Night viewing parties throughout the country. The event is a fundraiser for the not-for-profit theatre.

The event will benefit the Campus Theatre, 413 Market St., Lewisburg, beginning at 6 p.m. and will feature a live telecast of the event leading up to the Oscars. The public is invited to participate as fans, for the red carpet event pre-show.

“The event will feature ‘faux-tographers’ and ‘faux fans’ to make the event seem even more real,” said Mary Bannon, co-chairwoman of ONA event and executive director of the Campus Theatre.

Other red carpet excitement will include celebrity guest, Dana Adam Shapiro, an Academy Award nominee for directing “Murderball.” Limo rides will also be given from the parking lot to the red carpet.

During the telecast of the Academy Awards, drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

A raffle will be held with donations from the area. Winners will be announced while the broadcast is on commercial break.

“This is all new for the Lewisburg area, we are the smallest town on the list to receive a sanction to hold the event,” Bannon said.

Red carpet treatment, celebrity status and history in the making are just a few reasons to visit Oscar Night at the Campus Theatre Sunday.

The historic Campus Theatre opened in 1941, and throughout the years is one of few of its kind that has survived. Along with community members and other businesses in the area, the Campus Theatre partners with Bucknell University.
