The power of words
Senator Obama said his pastor is his "mentor." Webster's dictionary definition of mentor is "a wise and trusted counselor or teacher." There is an old adage "nothing is taught unless something is learned."
This leaves all of us with the question of how much of Pastor Wright's hate speech was absorbed in a young man's mind over a 20-year period. It is a question we all should ask ourselves and wonder.

"..the more I think he disagreed for the sake of the debate" jferringer...I just know your dad from this forum (so it's fair to say that I also know very little about him), but I just wanted to tell you that I can almost invision him disagreeing for the "greater good" of a good debate. You sound like a really cool family!

If your dad agrees with you on Obama then I have developed more appreciation for him. It is very healthy to have a political family . The only way we can honestly search our souls for the truth. America needs new blood and new path. Thanks for your courage and involvement.

Actually, I have been an Obama supporter since the beginning. Just figured Paul didn't stand much of a shot, and he lacked the broad appeal and ability to unify that Obama seems to have. Finally! A politician my dad and I can agree on..[Although the older I get, the more I think he disagreed for the sake of the debate..]

jferringer Nice to hear from you. I take it that you started out with Ron Paul and then switched to Obama. One of my sons(A graduate from Colombia University) did the same. I love it when young people rebel against a system that have proved to be corrupt and dysfunctional. They are the ones that will change it. Keep posting here to increase the number of progressive thinkers. Go Obama.

As my dad already said for me, Obama gave a great speech this morning as did Casey. Worth the two hour wait in the cold..do not worry - I am not blinded by his "rock star" appeal. He is a bit more to the left of me on most issues, but when was the last time we had someone who generated this much positive interest that cuts across all ages, races, etc is willing to try to end the bipartisan bickering? Anyway, easier for me to hope for than a libertarian president. haha..

WOW! That would be awesome !!!!! A couple of nights ago I said to my wife that it would be great if Obama chose Casey, and Casey accepted. I was just wishful thinking. Casey is conservative, and would sure add the conservative views to the ticket.

Casey for Veep is a smart move. He will balance the ticket (Pro -life) and will make the catholics warm up to Obama. PS: Awesome is the word I often hear from young people describing Obama. As I have said many times "Obama is a movement and you can not defeat a movement". Go Obama.

Gavin that is good parenting. My sister and her husband discuss politics and take their sons with them to vote and explain the procees and their reasoning. They are both Republicans and I make sure they understand that there is another side that is just as important. I am not going to say how just that I do. :-)

Chuck, I understand. There is an adulation factor for sure but I have had her at least mentally involved in politics for a number years and she registered to vote as soon as she turned 18.
