Husband jailed after officers accuse him of threatening wife, stealing $650

A Montoursville man was jailed on felony charges after he allegedly stole $650 from his wife and told her “everyone will be dead” if she called police, according to court papers filed at the office of District Judge Kenneth T. Schriner.

When Clinton James Taylor picked up his wife, Maria, at work on Plaza Drive in the borough about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, he told her he was going take her to the bank, where she would give him money from her account, borough police said.

“When she told him she would not give him any money, he told her ‘some crazy (stuff) would happen,’ ” Patrolman Jason Bentley said in an affidavit.

While en route to the Palco Federal Credit Union on Chad Road in Muncy Creek Township, the woman tried to get out of the vehicle at a traffic light, but Taylor, 26, “grabbed her and pulled her back inside the vehicle,” Bentley said he was told.

After they arrived at the credit union, Maria Taylor again told her husband she would not give him any money because she “needed the money for the kids,” Bentley said.

Taylor then “put the car in reverse and told his wife he was ‘going to take her on a long drive and that she would not like how it ended,’ ” the officer said.

Maria Taylor then changed her mind and agreed to give him the money, Bentley said, adding the two walked into the credit union, and the wife withdrew $650 from her account. As the two left the building, Taylor grabbed the money from his wife’s hands, the officer said.

Taylor tried to force his wife back in his vehicle after she refused to get in, Bentley said. Before fleeing the scene, Taylor told Maria that, “if she called the cops or told anyone about the incident, ‘everyone will be dead,’ ” the officer added.

Taylor of 15 S. Arch St. was taken into custody Thursday and arraigned before Schriner on charges of robbery, terroristic threats, false imprisonment, simple assault, theft, receiving stolen property and harassment. He was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in default of $7,500 bail.
