Wrong priorities
Representative Chris Carney's constituent e-mail urges us to join him in honoring Americorps members during National Americorps Week this week for the time and energy they devote to making Pennsylvania – and America – a better place to live. No doubt AmeriCorps participants make positive, important contributions to bettering our way of life. That's one of America's strengths – in fact, a basic quality among Americans not found in all societies – citizens who roll up their sleeves and work hard to help others.
Unfortunately, Chris doesn't have say anything in his e-mail about serious issues too many Americans face daily. Iraq. A crumbling economy in which upwards of 1.5 million Americans face foreclosure on their homes this year. Lack of health care coverage. Soaring debt. Chris seems to have become like many we send to Washington. Lately he spends great energy trying to capture headlines and personal attention to help bolster his re-election. This disappointing situation prompted my reply to his email:
"I've got a suggestion about how you can further honor AmeriCorps volunteers. How about re-orienting your attention to focus at least 75 percent of your time and effort toward bringing the troops home from Iraq? It's called living up to your responsibility. You pledged you would do everything you could to make this happen. But somewhere along the line you seem to have lost your way. You seem to spend enormous amounts of time trying to grab headlines and promote yourself. Why don't you focus and try to accomplish something substantial and worthwhile for the families whose sons, daughters, fathers, mothers etc. have paid the real price for President Bush's Blunders, and concentrate on Iraq?

LowKey: It does make it easy to understand why the NEOCONS are so obsessed with calling everyone else "HIPPOCRATS".... they are all followers (dittoheads) of the teachings of one of the biggest hippocrits walking, Rush Limburger. Kelaine: The Ga. bartender who had the shirts made up will be spending his profits (if any) on a lawyer. He's being sued !! (I think by the writer of the "Curious George" books.)

Pill-popper Limbaugh. After all of his bluster about people who use drugs illegally needing to be locked up, what did he do when he got caught? I can't believe that he is still so popular with the right.

DennyS….An ultra-conservative tavern owner in Georgia made those t-shirts after Rush Limbaugh issued an apology to Senator Obama for laughing and engaging in conversation with one of his callers about such a remark. Funny thing is that….like you…the tavern owner also says it’s not racist. The tavern owner is clearly an arse.

Well Denny, maybe if we invested in the American education system the way we "invest" in the Middle East we wouldn't have kids like the ones you describe.

Hey John, Take your best shot.If we can have T-shirts with Obama 08 and a picture of Curious George. I can mention the resemblance. So sensitive, Can't wait to throw out the R word. Anybody that doesn't agree gets labeled. We are all allowed to have our opinions whether you like it or not. There is no hope in the kiddies, High School has been so dummied down, I know honor students that can't spell or even do simple multiplication. If they can't do it on their phone they can't do it. Ask them to find Europe on a map. Ask them the capital of NY state and 9 out of 10 will say NY. If it's not on MTV or You Tube they don't have a clue. Look at what's happening at our colleges. It's cohab dorms,Alcohol out of control and Terrorist bombers for professors. And you want to trust our countries future to this bunch.. Jeez you are so naive.

RWConsp: "Let me remind you Mr. Berry and the rest of you left wing extremist, that this is not Bush's war. This is America's war." WRONG. IT IS BUSH'S WAR. He is "The Decider." Bush was duly elected by one vote (a U.S. Sup. Ct. Justice appointed by his father), and he is the deFacto Commander-in-chief. He is the top executive in the U.S. Government. You can delegate authority, but you cannot delegate responsibility. "The elected officials in Congress and our elected President authorized this war." AFTER CONGRESS WAS INTENTIONALLY MISLED BY THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH AND IT'S CULLED, CHERRY-PICKED INTELLIGENCE. PLEASE DON'T TRY TO INSULT OUR INTELLIGENCE !! The Bush administration has burnt us enough !!

If you believe that we went to war in Iraq based only on the recommendations of Tenet you are gravely misinformed. The Bush White House chose to IGONRE Tenet when he told them that Iraq DID NOT have W.M.D.s. www .salon****/opinion/blumenthal/2007/09/06/bush_wmd/

Let me remind you Mr. Berry and the rest of you left wing extremist, that this is not Bush's war. This is America's war. The elected officials in Congress and our elected President authorized this war. However, a Clinton appointed CIA Director (Tenet) did provide the false intelligence as the reasoning to go to war. If you say there are mistakes Bush made, well there are mistakes Clinton made by appointing such an incompetent person to head intelligence and his laissez faire approach to Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden.

What some don't know is that Rep. Carney, a member of the US Navy Reserve, flies Predator drones in his off-time. He's the one doing the REAL hunting for bin Laden while we sleep!

ANYONE WHO DOES NOT AGREE WITH DENNY S's RACIST THINKING - HIT THE "REPORT ABUSE" BUTTON - BESIDE HIS 8:44 AM COMMENT. COMPARING BARACK OBAMA TO A MONKEY IS ABOUT AS RACIST AS ONE CAN GET. I'D BET MONEY HIS COMMENT WILL BE REMOVED BY THE S/G. IT'S REALLY SAD THAT WE HAVE PEOPLE THAT THINK LIKE DENNY.

DennyS you are a racist. Im am so glad the young people of this country are rapidly coming of voting age, there is hope in them. Racism is dying as is sexism in America. The generations that follow us will not understand how people could have been so ignorant in regard to equality. This world isnt going to support your hate-filled attitudes much longer DennyS. Thank God.

Im a leftie and I dont blame Bush for everything. He had a lot of help. There was Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Karl Rove and a Republican legislature all doing their share to help big business rape America. The biggest benefactors of the Iraq war havent been the people of America or Iraq, it has been companies like Haliburton (good friend of Cheneys) and Kellog Brown and Root. These companies benefited from billions in our taxpayers dollars. The Republican raged against the "tax and spend" Democrats but somehow their "spend and spend" policies are ok. Even an eighth grader can understand that you cant just keep spending with no income to pay the bill. Try doing that with your credit card and see what happens.

Nikki, please, type your comment. Read it over, carefully. Edit, your comment. Look it over, again. Remove unneeded feldergarb. Use adverbs and adjectives and above all, punctuate. You come across on this board appearing as a blithering idiot. A typo is fine, an incoherent sentence is okay, but, post after post makes little or no sense.

grant...the democrats only have a slight majority in both the house and the senate.they cant overide a bush veto.they dont have the votes to do it.president bush is still the commander in chief and he wants the troops over there.the democratic controlled congress would look very badly in the public's eye if the cut off funding for the troops.not much you can do because almost every bill the democrats come up with gw vetos it.
