Mark Foust and Ron Newcomer were honored as Stars of Excellence recipients last week, because they represent the state Department of Transportation’s values of service, performance and integrity.

“Employees like Ron Newcomer and Mark Foust contribute tremendously to the success of our district,” said Sandra Tosca, district executive of District 3-0. “They exemplify the dedication, hard work and leadership that make our district shine, along with serving as a role model for other employees.”

Foust is an equipment manager with 11 years of service. His duties include maintaining the equipment fleet in Tioga County and monitoring all repairs and upgrades to Tioga County’s facilities.

He often is called up to provide stockpile training and has done training throughout the state because of his extensive equipment knowledge.

Newcomer is a highway designer with 10 years of service. He is a leader, innovator and mentor in the area of roadway design and software, PennDOT officials said.

Newcomer also was instrumental in developing spreadsheets for calculating “quantity computations for construction plans.” The spreadsheets increase productivity by eliminating repetitive data entry, officials said.

Free motorcycle

safety program

PennDOT is offering a free motorcycle safety program from March through October at 69 sites throughout the state.

Individuals must have either a Class M (motorcycle) learner’s permit or license.

The basic course is 15 hours and includes five hours of in-class instruction and 10 hours of practical riding experience under the watchful eye of certified rider coaches.

The six-hour experienced course offers skilled riders the change to refresh their safety knowledge and hone their on-road skills.

Visit www.pamsp.com for more information or to enroll in a course.
