Lewisburg resident  to lead chapter

Hood C. Johnston, a certified public accountant, was elected president of the North Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) for the 2008-2009 fiscal year.

Johnston is controller of Kuhns Brothers Log Homes Inc. in Lewisburg. In addition to his PICPA service, he is a trustee of the Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church and holds several volunteer positions at Bucknell University. Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree from Bucknell and his master’s degree from Rider University.

“Our primary focus is education, and we look forward to supporting continuing education for CPAs, with over 40 hours scheduled in the Williamsport area in 2008 to help local CPAs meet the required continuing education requirement to maintain a CPA license,” Johnston said.

Other 2008-2009 officers elected at PICPA’s North Central Chapter annual meeting include the following:

President-Elect: James R. Wehr, CPA, specializes in small business and taxation at Klein & Rizzo Inc. in Williamsport. He serves on the board of directors of the Northcentral Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross. Wehr, a Montoursville resident, earned a bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University.

Secretary: Jennifer L. Rhea, CPA, is a senior manager at Parente Randolph LLC in Williamsport. Rhea, a Salladasburg resident, has a bachelor’s degree from Lycoming College.

Treasurer: Kevin T. Rogers, CPA, specializes in taxation at Karchner, McClellan & Riddell LLP in Hummels Wharf. He is a graduate of Bloomsburg University and resides in Muncy.



Muncy resident wins volunteer award

Nancy G. Montanye, a certified public accountant, received the Volunteer Service Award from the North Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).

Montanye, who was honored at the chapter’s annual meeting on May 9, received the award for outstanding service and demonstrated contributions to the chapter and the PICPA through active participation in voluntary opportunities. She is a past president of the chapter and a current member of PICPA’s CPA Image Enhancement Committee.

“My involvement has been both professionally and personally rewarding,” Montanye said. “These efforts were successful in large part due to the active participation of other members.”


Medical school names associate dean

The Commonwealth Medical College, has announced that Richard B. English, MD, MHA, has been named the associate dean for regional campus development for the Wilkes-Barre campus.

“Dr. English will collaborate with other health professionals in the region to ensure the students receive a quality educational and community experience on the Wilkes-Barre campus. This is a critically important position for our future students and their education,” president and dean Robert D’Alessandri, MD said according to a news release. The Wilkes-Barre region includes Luzerne, Columbia, Montour, Sullivan, Schuylkill and Carbon counties.

He currently serves as the program director of the Wyoming Valley Family Practice Residency Program of United Health and Hospital Services, Inc., affiliated with the Wyoming Valley Health Care System. He is also a former chairman of the family practice department at Wyoming Valley Health Care System, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

English is a board-certified specialist in family medicine. He received his MD degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and an MA from Kings College, Wilkes-Barre. He completed his residency at United Health and Hospital Services Family Practice Residency program in Kingston.

“I am excited to collaborate with health professionals in this region,” English said. “The partnerships we will create will strengthen the experience of our students.”


CRS Incorporated announces promotion

CRS Incorporated is pleased to announce the promotion of Peter Lupacchino to the position of vice president of operations. In his new role, Lupacchino will be responsible for directing both the tactical and the strategic operations of the client services, programming, quality assurance, and network services groups.

Lupacchino has been with CRS since its inception in 1992, when assets were acquired from Canopy Road Software, Inc. Since that time, He has filled a variety of roles within the company, including controller and operations manager, and his efforts have been integral to the success which CRS has achieved to date.

“Pete’s knowledge of our legacy is unparalleled. No one has a stronger knowledge of the roots of our product design and our internal workings,” said Steve Uzupis, president of CRS.

Lupacchino, a long-time resident of the Williamsport area, is a graduate of Bishop Neumann High School and Williamsport Area Community College (now Pennsylvania College of Technology). He currently lives in Jersey Shore where he enjoys spending time with his wife, Dawn, as well as his children and grandchildren. He is also a great fan of Little League baseball and has served as a “team uncle” at the Little League World Series for more than 15 years.



Medical school names another associate dean

The Commonwealth Medical College has announced that Gerald P. Tracy, MD will be the Associate Dean for regional campus development for the Scranton campus. The Scranton region includes Lackawanna, Wyoming, Wayne, Susquehanna, Monroe and Pike counties.

“Dr. Tracy’s instinctive leadership skills and experience will be effective in enhancing the collaboration of the College with health professionals in the region to ensure the students receive quality educational experience. He will play a key role on the Scranton campus in welcoming and integrating the students into the community. This is a critically important position for our future students and their education.” president and dean Robert D’Alessandri, MD said, according to a news release.

Tracy received his MD degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York.

He retired in 2004 from Mercy Hospital in Scranton, where he served as the director of cardiovascular diseases for 22 years. Dr. Tracy also previously served as the president of medical staff at Mercy Hospital, president of the Keystone Chapter of the American Heart Association, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the University of Scranton and was a founding partner of Great Valley Cardiology.

Tracy has been published in a number of academic journals, including American Heart Journal, Pennsylvania Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association.

In addition to his many leadership roles, Tracy also has received many awards of distinction. He has been the recipient of the Frank O’Hara Award for Distinguished Achievements in Medicine from the University of Scranton, the Charles Bost Scranton-Temple Residence Program Award, the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick “Man of the Year” Award and was presented with an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Scranton.
