On Saturday, Williamsport Area High School Marching Millionaires will host a "Tournament of Bands" competition of high school marching bands.
Ten bands from around the region will participate, including East Pennsboro, Southern Tioga, Shamokin, Milton, Mifflinburg, Loyalsock Township, Bloomsburg and Shikellamy.
The event begins at 6 p.m. and is open to the public. Tickets are $7.
On Saturday, Williamsport Area High School Marching Millionaires will host a “Tournament of Bands” competition of high school marching bands.
As hosts of this event, the Marching Millionaires (USSBA Pennsylvania Section 3 Open Competition 2008 Champions) will not compete, but they will perform their 2008 show in exhibition.
The show, "Let There Be Color," is set to the music of Saucedo, a Traditional Hymn and Gillingham; and explores the partnership between color and sound.
The band is led onto the field by drum majors Seth Sponhouse and Davis Swift. Band Director Todd Kendall heads the staff of Laura Weir, assistant director; Ryan Pritchard, percussion director; Mark Garside, percussion instructor and visual technician; Tom Mitchell, drill design; MaryJo Mitchell, color guard coordinator; Kelly Sponhouse, color guard technician; Jessica Carpenter, color guard technician; and Heidi Crisswell and Sean Space, color guard design.
The Tournament of Bands is one of the largest competitive band organizations in the country.
The tournament provides performance opportunities in field band, indoor guard, majorette, percussion and dance team, as well as comprehensive festivals with instrumental and choral events.
Festival-level competitions and regional chapter tournaments qualify bands for the nine-state All-Chapters Competition.
Williamsport Area High School will host Chapter 4 Competition Nov. 1.
Chapter 4 comprises Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Juniata, Lycoming, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Potter, Schuylkill, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga and Union counties.
