New business spotlight on Creative Costumes

January 4, 2009

If vintage clothing is something that residents want, they should check out Creative Costumes, located at the Pajama Factory.

Owned by Nancy Reiff, the store sells various types of vintage clothing and accessories, like purses, scarves, gloves and shoes.

"I started off creating costumes for the Community Theatre League and I began collecting a lot of items in storage," Reiff said. "So I decided to create a store where people could buy items I wasn't using."

Eventually she choose the Pajama Factory as the site where she wanted her store to be located. "My goal is to open a costume shop in the next two years," Reiff said.

Reiff said she wants people to be able to afford the items in her store, and feel really great wearing them. "I want people to feel good about themselves, and have fun with what they are wearing," Reiff said.

When Reiff gets a piece of clothing for a low price, she passes it on to the consumer. "The economy is so bad right now, I can't see inflating prices," Reiff said.

Reiff gets the items she sells in her store at different places including auctions and sales. Some of the clothes are even handmade, she said.

Currently, Reiff does not have many men's clothing, but she is working on getting more.

"I have a lot of men's fedoras that could and should be worn," Reiff said.

Upcoming events for the business include a fashion show on the first Friday in April at the Eagle Rock Winery.

Reiff said she is also considering having a mother-daughter tea in May and is working out the details for the event.

Reiff is also working with her son to create a Web site, so people can learn more about her business. She said it should be finished within a few months.
