Brandon R. Gardner
JERSEY SHORE - The Jersey Shore Lions' Club Citizen of the Month for January is Brandon R. Gardner, son of Dawn and Robert Gardner of Jersey Shore.
While in school, Gardner has been active with IT Club, Karate Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Constitutional Convention, Jazz Band, Scholastic Scrimmage, Mosaic, Technology Student Association, Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, Concert Band, Chorus and Model U.N.
Gardner served as the captain of the scholastic scrimmage team and is the percussion section leader in band.
Outside school, he volunteers as a karate instructor at Bell's Karate Studio. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, canoeing, karate and computer programming.
After graduation, Gardner plans to attend Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y., to major in physics and mathematics.
JERSEY SHORE - The Business and Professional Women's Club Girl of the Month for January is Cortney Anne Rishel, daughter of Todd and Jennifer Rishel of Jersey Shore.
While in school, Rishel has been active with Model U.N., soccer, National Honor Society, Prom Committee, Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, tennis, Class Committee and Homecoming Committee. Rishel Has served as treasurer for the Class of 2009 for four years. She also has been FBLA treasurer for two years, and National Honor Society treasurer. In addition, Rishel has led her teams as JV soccer captain and tennis team captain. During the summer, she volunteers as part of the kitchen staff at Slippery Rock Baptist Camp.
Rishel competed in virtual business at FBLA national competition. She has been selected to be a member of the Business National Honor Society. In addition, she is a tennis letter winner.
Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and playing tennis.

Karl Robert Berger
Karl Robert Berger of Millville was named to the dean's list at Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y.
Berger is a first-year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. He is pursuing a degree in computer science.
He is the son of Leslie and William Berger of Millville and a 2008 graduate of Millville High School.
Financial aid night set Wednesday
TURBOTVILLE - Warrior Run High School will host a free Financial Aid Night at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, in the high school auditorium.
District high school students and their parents are encouraged to attend this informative session to get a better understanding of the student aid process and how best to begin planning to fund their higher education. Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 along with their parents will benefit most from the information that will be presented.
A student aid expert from PHEAA's Regional Office will provide information and answer questions.
Parents and students will learn what they need to do to apply for all types of financial aid, including completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is required to qualify for most student aid programs such as the Pennsylvania State Grant, Federal Pell Grant, institutional awards and low-cost federal student and parent loans.
Participants also will be briefed on Pennsylvania-specific aid programs as well as the importance of searching out free money awards like scholarships to help pay for education costs.
