Patricia L. Owens

Patricia L. Owens, 64, of Canton, PA (Union Twp) passed away very unexpectedly at home on Friday morning, January 9, 2009.

Patricia Anne, "Pat" to family and friends, was born in Morris Run, PA on March 17, 1944; one of three daughters in the family of the late Alzy and Ann (Batulis) Lutomski. After graduating from North Penn High School, Pat received a Bachelors of Science from Mansfield State University and a Masters in Library Science from Syracuse University. On October 1, 1966, she married Thomas Owens at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Morris Run.

Pat was employed by the Connecticut State Library for several years as the Director of Library Development. She retired while serving as the Interim State Librarian. In 1999, Pat established the Timber Crest Consulting Firm. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Canton and served as a director of Canton's Rekindle the Spirit Association and the Bradford County Library Board. Pat was also active in the American Library Association, PA Library Association and Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries.

In addition to Tom, her beloved husband of 42 years, she is survived by her daughter, Lisa Anne Owens of Tetonia, Idaho; a grandson, Tucker; a sister, Romaine (John) Muto of Blossburg; a niece, Malinda (Dave) Moshier of Pine City, NY and their daughter, Lindsey Groome; a nephew, John (Lori) Muto of State College, PA and their son, Peter; a sister-in-law, Judy Owens of Naples, NY and nephews John and Robbie. Patricia was predeceased by her sister, Linda Lutomski.

Calling hours are 57 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Dr. in Canton with a Vigil Prayer service at 7 p.m. Following Transferal Prayers at the funeral home, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church at Washington and Union Streets in Canton. Interment will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Morris Run. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those who wish consider a memorial in Patricia's name to St. Michael's Catholic Church, 24 N. Washington St. or the Green Free Library, 14 N.Center St., both in Canton, PA 17724.
