Many public swimming pools around the area are opening soon, so swimmers can take the plunge and sunbathers can soak up some rays.
Special Memorial Day hours are observed by several pools, which open regular summer hours in early June.
Pool membership rates, admission fees and hours include:
Williamsport Area
Williamsport YMCA summer recreation Director Megan Hill said three area swimming pools will open this summer, but only one, Memorial Pool, will open for Memorial Day weekend.
Located in Memorial Park on West Fourth Street, the pool opens for weekends only on Saturday, May 23 through Sunday, May 31.
The seven-day-a-week season begins Saturday, June 6.
Hours are Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, noon to 6 p.m., and Monday, Wednesday and Friday, noon to 8 p.m.
Resident season memberships are family, $110; adult, $65; student, $40; and senior citizen 62 and older, free.
Non-resident memberships are family, $130; adult, $85; student, $80; and senior citizen, $20.
Each membership is valid at both the Memorial Pool and the East End Pool at Shaw Place Park.
Daily admission prices for a resident or non-resident are adult, $3.50; student, $3; children, $2.50; and children 2 and younger, free.
East End Pool opens June 6 from noon to 6 p.m., seven days a week.
There are no memberships or admission fees necessary for Brandon Pool.
Located in Brandon Park, off Market Street, the pool will open for the season Monday, June 8. Hours are noon to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
South Williamsport
Until the regular season begins, the South Williamsport Community Pool is open from noon to 7 p.m. certain days, according to borough assistant secretary-treasurer Maria Maddy. The special days are Saturday, May 23; Sunday, May 24; Monday, May 25; Saturday, May 30; and Sunday, May 31.
After school wraps for the year, the East Central Avenue pool will open for the regular season Saturday, June 6.
Regular season hours are noon to 7 p.m., Friday through Sunday, and 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Residential rates include family, $120; and adult, $85. The non-resident family rate is $150, and adult, $100. For students, both residents and non-residents, the fee is $60.
Daily admission fees include: ages 6 and up, $3.50; ages 2-5, $2.50; under age 2, free; and ages 55 and older, $1.
Loyalsock Township
The Loyalsock Township Community Swimming Pool, 2103 Northway Road, will open at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23, according to township manager Bill Burdett.
Memorial Day weekend, the pool will be open Sunday, May 24 and Monday, May 25.
It will be open Saturdays and Sundays only on May 30 and 31 and June 6 and 7.
The pool opens full-time, seven days a week, on Thursday, June 11.
Pool hours are observed from May 23 and throughout the season. The pool is open from 1 to 7:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1 to 6:45 p.m. Friday-Sunday.
Discount rates are available until May 8, and include seasonal family membership, $135; seasonal individual, $90; monthly family, $75 and monthly individual, $60. After May 8, all membership prices increase $10.
Daily rates are $3.50 for anyone ages 5 and older, and $3.25 for children under 5.
Jersey Shore
The Jersey Shore Area Swimming Pool, 410 Thompson St., will open at noon Saturday, June 6, according to pool Manager Bonnie Messersmith.
Season hours are noon to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
Borough resident season membership rates include: Individual, $70; Family of up to five members, $135, with additional family members or a baby-sitter $25 each; swim team member, $45.
Non-resident rates include: Individual, $80; Family of up to five members, $150, with additional family members or a baby-sitter $35 each; swim team member, $55.
Resident or non-resident daily rates include: Ages 6 and older, $4; ages five and younger, $2; ages 60 and older, $1.50; and observer, $1.
Muncy Area
The Muncy Area Swimming Pool, at the rear of 125 New St., will open for the weekend only on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, according to Muncy Area Pool Association Secretary Marcia Arnold.
The pool will open for the season Saturday, June 6.
Hours are 1 to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
If paid by May 23, discount season membership rates are family, $125; individual, $80; senior citizen ages 62 and older, $55; babysitter, $40. Paid after May 23, rates include family, $150; individual, $90; senior citizen, $60; and babysitter, $45.
Daily rates are student, $3, and adult, $3.50.
Montoursville
Located at 1007 N. Loyalsock Ave., the Montoursville Community Pool has special hours before it opens for the regular season Saturday, June 6, East Lycoming YMCA aquatics director Ann Lawton said.
The pool is open noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 23 and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 24. The same hours are observed the following weekend, Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31.
While school's still in session, the pool is open 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 1 through Friday, June 5.
The regular season begins Saturday, June 6. Season hours are noon to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday; noon to 5 p.m., Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Borough resident membership rates for the season are family, $125; adult, $95; students ages 6-18, $85; and children up to age 5, $75.
Non-resident season rates are family, $150; adult, $120; student, $110; and children, $100.
Daily rates are adults 19 and older, $3.50; students 6-18 years, $3; and children up to age 5, $2.50.
Region
The Mill Hall Community Pool is expected to be closed the entire season due to renovations needed, according to pool chairman Harold Brungard.
The Watsontown Community Pool has ceased operations, according to borough Secretary Edie Moser.
In Tioga County, the Blossburg Community Pool will open June 5; the Mansfield Community Pool will open June 6; the Wellsboro Community Pool will open June 5; and the Tioga Community Pool will open June 6.
