Information services about transportation, health care, insurance and various issues affecting senior citizens are available at several locations in the region, including senior centers and hospitals.
Seniors in need of assistance with filling out Medicare and other health insurance forms can get help from APPRISE, an insurance counseling program, through the Office of Aging. Seniors with income less than $19,200 per year may be eligible to receive auto registration for $10.
Seniors may be eligible for PACE if the total family income for last year was less than $14,500 for singles and $17,700 for couples.
Seniors also may be eligible for a rent or property tax rebate benefit offered through the state lottery. Seniors age 65 or older are eligible to register for senior transportation service using River Valley Transit and Lycoming-Clinton Transportation Services.
The Senior Citizens Information Center is at Divine Providence Hospital, 1100 Grampian Blvd. To reach it, enter the main lobby, go behind the information desk, follow the green dots to Elevator D and go to the second floor.
The center is open from 9:30 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays and the phone number is 326-8657.
Assistance also is available from 9:30 a.m. to noon each Thursday at Muncy Valley Hospital, 215 E. Water St.
Also, Susquehanna Health and the AARP will offer a Mature Driver Training program, an eight-hour classroom refresher course, to help drivers 50 years of age or older improve their skills and prevent traffic accidents. Graduates are eligible for a premium discount on car insurance.
Registration for day and evening sessions will be accepted from 9:30 a.m. to noon each Monday and Wednesday at Divine Providence Hospital.
The fee for the course is $10. Registration and pre-payment are required.
