Three Lycoming College students are enhancing their educational experiences this summer with local start-up businesses. The businesses are Keystone Innovation Zone companies, which is a designation for qualified innovative start-ups to access innovation support services, project and internship grants and state tax credit incentives.
The summer internships are being funded by a Lycoming College Keystone Innovation Grant.
The student interns are Joshua Wrench at Keystone Leather, Justine Bush at Bavarian Barbarian Brewing Co., and Patrick Welteroth at TGI Electronics.
Wrench is taking a lead role in new product development, research and marketing.
Bush is working on an online marketing campaign, and researching and executing a Pennsylvania Brewery Trail.
Welteroth's project is researching and developing marketing materials to make TGI's technical services more visible to their target markets.
"I'm excited that we have been able to work with KIZ to get our students involved with these projects. It's a very important part of their education; a great way to extend education beyond the classroom walls.
"Ultimately, the success of these small businesses will help nurture the Williamsport economy," said Anne Landon, Institute for Management Studies internship coordinator at Lycoming College.
"KIZ is thrilled to be able to match our start-up clients with qualified students. It's a real win for both the companies and the students. The students gain a truly well-rounded experience because these young companies need support in so many areas of their businesses," said Katie Bell, Williamsport-Lycoming KIZ coordinator.
