Roundup: D12 Big Leaguers take first game at states

Four home runs and an 11-run second inning helped lift District 12 to a 19-0 shutout over the District 15 all-stars in the Big League Baseball tournament in Thorndale.

Kurt Wertz, Colin Kelly, Jerrett Mertes and John Taddeo all connected for home runs. The District 12 pitching trio of Vince Molesky, Nick Keener and Bobby Donato only let up two total hits combined in their win. They play the District 27 winner tonight at 7 p.m., a team which won 9-8 to advance.

In 10-11 Baseball, Brandon beat Loyalsock 13-3 despite a Loyalsock home run from Brandon Ray.

In Minor Softball, Emily Strouse struck out 13 and Clinton reached the title game at Volunteer Stadium with a 14-4 win over Montgomery, which fell to the consolation bracket.

Newberry/Muncy advanced to the loser's bracket championship game tomorrow after an 8-5 win over Montoursville. Newberry/Muncy's Madison Zwisle had 14 strikeouts in the win and allowed five hits. Katie Ebner had 3 RBI for Newberry/Muncy while Tabitha Kuhns had an RBI as well
