Roundup: Rain further delays Montour Junior BaseballJuly 25, 2009 - From staff reportsRain continued to wreak havoc with the Section 3 Junior Baseball Tournament on Friday night at the Moser Complex in Turbotville. Montoursville and Berwick reached the bottom of the fourth inning with the District 12 champs leading 5-3 before lightning and eventually rain and small pieces of hail forced the suspension of the contest. The game will resume today at 1 p.m. with Berwick coming up and trailing by two runs. The loser of Montoursville-Berwick will play Shamokin at 3 p.m., while the winner will meet Wellsboro at 6:30 p.m. The tournament could continue to Tuesday night should an "if game" be needed to decide the Section 3 champion. Before the rains last night, Montoursville showed a split personality through the first 3 1/2 innings. The District 12 champs left two men stranded in its initial at-bat and then had a distrastrous bottom of the first inning that included four walks and two errors. The uncharacteristic inning led to three Berwick runs and had starting pitcher Pierce Ranck over halfway to his pitch limit. Montoursville flipped a switch in the second inning and scored five times on four hits to take a 5-3 lead. Pierce then settled down and threw only 23 pitches over the next two innings after releasing 48 in the first. Sam Taylor and Ryan Mondell each had RBI singles in Montoursville's five-run second inning. The District 12 Big League All-Stars defeated Delaware District 2 in the loser's bracket 11-1 and was playing a late game against Maryland. The Pennsylvania champs had 16 hits against Delaware, including three by Brian Stopper. The Loyalsock Minor Baseball team opened Section 3 play with an 11-4 win over Potter McKean. The District 12 champs scored 10 runs in the second inning to take control of the game. Hunter Webb had a pair of hits for Loyalsock, which will play Upper Dauphin 4 p.m. today in Lewisburg. In Section 3 10-11 Baseball, Caleb Seyler homered and Alex Garbrick and Landon Breon combined on a three-hitter as Keystone beat Upper Dauphin County, 7-1. Clinton's Minor Softball was eliminated from the Section 3 tournament in Wysox, losing to Canton, 4-1. The host team scored two runs in the fifth inning to protect a 2-1 lead.
