DiSalvo’s joins in ‘Great American Dine Out’

September 13, 2009
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

DiSalvo's Restaurant, 341 E. Fourth St., is joining in Share Our Strength's "Great American Dine Out" presented by American Express.

The annual event is designed to rally the nation's entire restaurant industry and encourage millions of consumers to dine out and end childhood hunger in America.

One in every six children in America suffers from uncertain access to the healthy, nutritious foods they need to avoid the lifelong and devastating consequences of hunger," said Billy Shore, co-founder of Share Our Strength. "We are in striking distance of ending childhood hunger. By instituting what we know has worked and joining forces together we can make this vision a reality."

"Children are the backbone of our nation and in these troubling economic times we must take care of the young ones who are unable to do for themselves," said restaurant owner Vince DiSalvo.

Restaurants participating in the "Great American Dine Out" will donate between 1 percent to 5 percent of their sales during Sept. 20 to 26 to help support Share Our Strength's work to increase and facilitate kids' access to nutritious foods where they live, learn and play.

More than 1,500 restaurants will take part in this event.

Adding to the list of endorsements is Food Network Star and the host of hit TV series "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," Guy Fieri.

Fieri will step up as the national spokesperson for the Dine Out.
