BarlowGirl, a Christian Rock band based out of Chicago, will perform at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at the YMCA Pickelner Arena, 320 Elmira St.
The show is part of the BarlowGirl and Superchick Live Tour, which also features VOTA.
The band consists of three sisters, Alyssa on vocals, bass and keys; Lauren on vocals, drums and percussion; and Becca on guitars and vocals. When the girls were younger, their father trained them to play as part of his church band in the late '90s. He wrote kid's music and made CDs for their children's ministry, which later led to a tour.
"We girls started to write some songs and Dad would have us play them at the church services," the band said. "The people really liked them and one day I realized, 'Hey, I think we are a band!' "
The name BarlowGirl comes from a childhood nickname.
"Our last name is Barlow. Growing up, people called us the 'Barlow Girls,' so the name just stuck with us over the years," the band said.
The band describes themselves as a female-fronted pop-rock group with a three-part harmony.
"If we could choose one adjective to describe our music, it would be eclectic," the band said.
At the moment, the band's favorite song to play live is "Stay with Me," from their new album "Love & War." Another one they love performing live is "Million Voices" for their "How Can We Be Silent" CD.
Joining BarlowGirl on the tour are longtime friends and fellow musicians, Superchick and VOTA.
"We have been friends with Superchick for a long time now and have talked about touring together for years. They have always been so supportive of our music and ministry, even with their single 'Barlow Girls,' " the band said. "And we love the music of our featured guest band, VOTA, and are so happy they can join us on the tour."
The band said that their Mom has been their greatest spiritual influence. She has been like a rock and kept them focused.
They also credit their producer, Otto Price, for being their greatest musical influence and challenging them in so many ways.
"Our hope is that our music challenges people to throw aside all distractions and relentlessly pursue the Lord and find their purpose in Him," the band said.
