HARRISBURG - State Secretary of Aging John Michael Hall recently invited members of senior centers across Pennsylvania to create and donate ornaments for the Christmas tree that will stand in the Capitol Rotunda.
The handmade ornaments will showcase the talents and creativity of Pennsylvania's older adults.
"The one-of-a-kind ornaments created by members of senior centers have become a holiday tradition that is appreciated by those who work in and visit the Capitol," Hall said. "These unique expressions of creativity and skill really make the tree special. Last year, hundreds of ornaments were donated and I hope we will have the same enthusiastic participation again this year."
The tree will be on display in the Capitol Rotunda from early December through early January.
Senior centers are asked to send sturdy, hand-made ornaments to the following address by Nov. 24, keeping in mind that donated ornaments cannot be returned: Pennsylvania Department of Aging, Press Office, Forum Place, 555 Walnut St., Harrisburg, PA 17101-1919.
Pennsylvania has more than 600 senior centers where more than 200,000 people visit each year.
Nutritious meals are served at centers to more than 83,000 people annually.
