Roundup: Lewisburg boys hand South first loss

Lewisburg's Shakiel Rice scored a team-high 12 points as the Green Dragons' boys basketball team handed South Williamsport its first loss of the season, 57-33. Lewisburg held the Mounties to just 12 combined points in the first and third quarters.

"I thought we came out and put in a real workman-like effort," Lewisburg coach John Vaji said. "We executed out defense, got some open shots and made them. It was a nice win."

Williamsport's boys baskteball team dropped a 68-29 decision to Wilson West Lawn running its losing streak to eight games dating back to last year.

Hughesville improved to 7-0 with a 73-37 win over Wyoming Valley West. Addison Hanford led the Spartans with 25 points.

Millville defeated Warrior Run, 72-48, in boys basketball. Derek Younger led Warrior Run with 18 points.

Tony Farless scored 20 points and Sullivan County rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Northeast Bradford, 51-49 in overtime.

Alex Preston scored 21 points and Elkland broke open a close game in the fourth quarter as it defeated Bucktail, 58-46.

Loyalsock outscored Mount Carmel in girls basketball 25-8 in the first quarter and held on to win 71-50 to improve to 3-4. Loyalsock's Sammi Lane led the team with 21 points, and Keely Henninger scored 19.

Lewisburg's Jenny Meslener recorded a double-double in a 58-41 win over Southern Columbia. Meslener had 18 points and grabbed 19 rebounds.

Rachel Fatherly scored 23 points, Alicia Ross added 21 as Williamsport nearly rallied from a 13-point, fourth-quarter deficit at District 2 power Hazleton before losing, 65-61.

Kristin Keiser and Shawnee Lutcher combined for 32 points as Warrior Run defeated Hughesville, 57-37 and improved to 8-1.

Hannah Bohr hit six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 17 points, but Montoursville, playing without injured Lydia Kurtz, was outscored by 11 in the fourth quarter as Selinsgrove rallied for a 39-29 win.

Lock Haven lost in men's basketball to Bloomsburg, 70-38, to drop to 3-5 on the season. Eric Brennan scored a team-high 14 points.

Penn College fell Keene State, 106-82, to drop into the consolation game in the university of Scranton Tournament.

Mansfield took a two-point lead into the half against Edinboro, but couldn't hold onto it, losing 85-74. Tony Fannick scored 19 points for Mansfield.

In women's basketball, Bloomsburg managed to defeat Lock Haven, 64-58 to drop the Lady Eagles to 3-4. Sharay Hall had a team-high 16 points for Lock Haven and also led with eight rebounds.

Lycoming lost to St. Lawrence, 59-55, after 10 lead changes. The Warriors' Alicia Engler led the team with 18 points while Kaitlyn Ober grabbed 12 rebounds and scored eight points.

Mansfield's Mallory Moore scored a game-high 18 points and recorded her third double-double of the season in a 90-48 loss to Edinboro.
