Pa. woman charged with giving illegal physicals

June 30, 2014
Associated Press

CARLISLE, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania state police are charging a woman who allegedly gave illegal physical exams to commercial truck drivers.

State police say 56-year-old Joann Wingate of Carlisle advertised her services to truckers, who require regular medical exams to maintain their commercial driver's licenses.

Investigators say Wingate fraudulently used a Philadelphia psychiatrist's name and medical license number for 16 exams and used her own chiropractic license number for at least two others after it had been suspended last year for advertising violations.

One California trucker told authorities that the woman returned his $65 fee after he discovered that she had reported his examination results on an invalid form.

Charges against Wingate include forgery, identity theft and deceptive business practices.

No telephone listing for Wingate could be found.
