About 10 years ago Mike Philbin wanted to build a house and found that he had no place for storage.
In looking for storage facilities, Philbin also found the units were all full.
This is when he realized there was a need for a new storage facility in the area. Philbin went to a few conventions to learn about storage. In the end, came the birth of Muncy Self Storage.

The concept of Muncy Self Storage came to Mike Philbin, top photo, about 10 years ago when he found that storage facilities in the area had limited units available. Over the year's, Philbin's self storage facility has grown to 11 buildings and 276 units.
From its conception, the business has grown every year, according to Philbin.
Philbin's already established business, Keystone Bingo in Muncy, had an abundance of extra land that Philbin had at his disposal.
"We owned this property and thought a new storage facility would be a good add-on. We built three buildings that had about 100 units," Philbin said.
Now, the businesses sit adjacent to one another.
Today the self storage facility has grown to 11 buildings and 276 units with anticipated growth in the near future.
"This all happened because I couldn't find someplace to store my stuff when I was building my house. I wanted to sell my other house. You have all this stuff in corners you want to move out and make the house look bigger. It took me a month before I could find anything," Philbin said.
As the business continued to grow, Philbin branched out into other areas of storage. Not before long, he began another business venture with his son, Jason Philbin.
The new business venture, Red Dog Mobile Storage brings the storage facility to the customer, rather than the customer moving the items to the storage facility.
Because they already had the infrastructure in place, it was easy to branch out into mobile storage. The newest addition of the storage business began between two and three years ago, according to Philbin.
The mobile storage began with between 10 to 20 units. Today, there are almost 60. The business may acquire more soon, according to Philbin.
"Lets say you are remodeling your house and you wanted to move stuff out of your living room, you have two choices. You could store it some place in your house or you would have to haul it to a place to store it yourself. With Red Dog Mobile Storage, we can actually come and put the storage unit on your property," Philbin said.
Once on the property, the storage unit can be filled up and used for storage until it is no longer needed.
Once done, the business will come and retrieve the storage container. No travelling needs to be done by the customer.
Restoration businesses have utilized the mobile storage concept, according to Philbin.
It is also useful in unforeseen events.
"We just sent two units to Sunbury for a business that got burned out. They hauled out all of their records and are storing them on-site and locking them up. They will store them on-site until they are ready to move them back in," Philbin said.
Philbin sees plans for future expansion in his future.
"We are looking to branch out into other areas, possibly State College or Bloomsburg. There are companies out there that will move them across country. We have moved people to Rochester and Harrisburg. But generally, what we are trying to do is to stay within the area," Philbin said.
Four people are employed by the storage businesses and Philbin appreciates the hard work of his employees.
"The two guys that are doing most of the deliveries on the Red Dog, are getting more compliments from doing a wonderful job and getting the units where they need to be in a timely fashion. Some times, it is not an easy process, but these guys work very hard," Philbin said.
Prices are competitive with other similar storage facilities in the area.
