Roundup: Lancer boys beat Central Columbia

February 6, 2010
From staff reports

Tyler Bogaczyk scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but Loyalsock needed to hold off a furious Central Columbia fourth-quarter rally Saturday on the road as it held on for a 59-57 win. Central appeared to tie the game with a last-second shot but it was waved off after the referees said it was not released in time. Isaac Bittle and Antoine Ellison-Love scored in double figures for the Lancers (15-2, 9-2).

Four Hughesville players scored in double figures as the Spartans maintained a two-game lead over Loyalsock in the HAC-II, thumping Mount Carmel, 68-39. Greg Taggart hit three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 14 points for Hughesville (17-1, 11-0).

Lewisburg hit 10 3-pointers and Kyle Ranck and Cam Cassels combined for 35 points as the Green Dragons pulled away from Midd-West, 58-46. Cassels scored 15 of 27 first-half points for Lewisburg (12-7, 7-4) while Ranck scored 16 of the team's 31 second-half points.

Montoursville played well in the second half but was held to 12 first-half points as HAC-I leader Mifflinburg defeated it 65-45.

Muncy took a lead into the second quarter against defending District 4 Class A champion Millville, but struggled in the second half as the Quakers won, 60-35.

Southern Columbia held Warrior Run to 16 points in each half and defeated the Defenders, 68-32.

Ben Barnhart led Jersey Shore with 28 points in its 81-61 win over Selinsgrove.

In girls basketball, Lewisburg led 30-14 after three quarters and defeated Wyalusing, 37-29. Jenny Meslener had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Alex Marple scored 17 points and Wellsboro held Elkland to single digits in all four quarters as it cruised to a 54-20 win.

Brittany Phelps scored 18 points and Cowanesque Valley rolled to a 51-9 win over Williamson.

Taryn Rumsey, Tanya Dewalt and Jackie Hillson scored in double figures as Mansfield overcame a slow start and defeated North Penn, 36-26. Mikayla Kshir scored nine points for North Penn.

In men's basketball, Lock Haven rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit and defeated Edinboro, 91-90. Four Eagles scored in double figures led by Eric Brennan's 31 points.

In women's basketball, Edinboro pulled away from Lock Haven, winning 62-49. Peaches Nesmith led the Lady Eagles with 15 points.

Navy shot 12-for-21 on 3-pointers in a 61-46 win over Bucknell.

The Bison were 0-for-6 from the line, the first time in Sojka Pavilion's 7-year history the home team failed to sink a free throw.?
