Police: Man took part in illegal gambling

March 10, 2010
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

HUGHESVILLE - A 64-year-old Main Street man faces a dozen misdemeanor charges of pool selling and bookmaking for allegedly selling football tickets for illegal gambling to an undercover state trooper between late October 2008 and last April.

During that time, George Douglas Weaver of 68 S. Main St. also made illegal bets with the trooper, including a $500 wager on the Feb. 1, 2009, Super Bowl in which the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals, police said.

Two weeks before that Super Bowl, Weaver made a $200 wager to the cop on the National Football Conference and American Football Conference Championship games, police said.

It is alleged that Weaver sold numerous football tickets for illegal gambling purposes on at least two occasions, police said.

Weaver has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge C. Roger McRae.
