Just a note for those adults who are no longer involved in Girl Scouting to let you know what is happening to Camp Lycogis. Three years ago Hemlock Council was merged with three other councils to form Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania. As a result of this merger the council board has developed a business plan to help the financial aspect of the council. Therefore they are closing five camps throughout the council. Camp Lycogis has been "closed indefinitely". As we reviewed the original "Articles of Merger" when Hemlock Council was formed, the clause regarding Camp Lycogis "shall not be sold or disposed of without explicit consent of the majority of adult registered Girl Scouts in Lycoming County, at a meeting at which at least five percent (5%) of said registered adults is present; and, in the event that Lycoming County should no longer be within the chartered geographical area of HEMLOCK GIRL SCOUT COUNCIL, INC., the said Camp Lycogis property shall revert to whatever organization is set up to carry out the objectives set forth in the Articles of Incorporation of LYCOMING COUNTY GIRL SCOUTS, INC.".
Realizing it is a business decision to close the camp because of needed flood repairs and disrepair over the past few years, I still can't help wonder what will happen to those buildings and grounds that have provided many memories for thousands of women and girls. As an adult still involved in Girl Scouting, I hope somehow we can keep the camp available to girls in our region.
