WELLSBORO - A 17-year-old Wellsboro girl died Saturday of injuries she suffered earlier in a one-car crash, according to state police.
Jillian D. Rupert died in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. Bradford County Coroner Tom Carman said the girl died of "anoxic brain injury, which is a lack of oxygen to the brain. It was the result of a significant head injury."
Police said the teen lost control of a 1999 Chevrolet Prizm as she was traveling south on Ely Hill Road in Delmar Township, Tioga County, about 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday.
The rear of the car spun counter-clockwise, and then traveled to the eastern edge of the road, where it struck an embankment, police said. The vehicle then went up the embankment and rolled onto its right side, police said.
The girl, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected, police said.
Wellsboro volunteer firefighters responded.
