Soon, the eyes of the world will be upon our area and the city of Williamsport will be host to thousands of visitors as we await the first pitches of The Little League World Series! As I drive on many local highways, especially Interstate 180 between Montoursville and Williamsport, I can't help but notice the type and amount of litter that blankets the median area and the sides of the highway in each direction.
How many people, while visiting our city, will decide to take a leisurely walk on the new bikeway along the beautiful Susquehanna River between games? What will they see as they look toward the city? Mounds of garbage tossed out or blown off vehicles that lie scattered down over the banks of I-180. I hope that all the organizations that are participants of the Adopt A Highway program will organize a clean up before the opening ceremonies of the World Series. It's too bad Pennsylvania cannot be like some southern states and get the prisoners sitting in jail out along the highways doing litter pick up and weed pulling!
I have seen the Muncy Womens Correctional Facility out along 180 this past spring picking up trash on several occasions! Thank you!
Let's all try harder to keep it that way all year long and to make first impressions, lasting impressions.
