Nina E. Bresaz, 95, a long-term resident of Jersey Shore, having moved to the community with her husband John in 1961, died Sunday morning, August 29, 2010, in the Jersey Shore Hospital surrounded by her loving daughter, Sallie (Richard K.) Dershem of Jersey Shore; her cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey L. (Debbie) Dershem of Zionsville, Pa., Scott A. (Sheryl) Dershem of Lock Haven, Michael K. (Jonel) Dershem of Voorhies, N.J., Jennie S. (Stephan) Welsh of Jersey Shore, and Timothy J. (Tasha) Dershem of Lewisburg; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Katie and Lance Welsh, Ridge, Chase, Bryce, Darren, Dylan and Todd Dershem, John and Jason Smith; also her niece, Candace Royer of Framingham, Mass.
Nina was the organizing founder of the Joann Hall Kidney Foundation and for many years she was a member of the former Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jersey Shore. She also was a member of the Ivanhoe Chapter, Order of Eastern Star #28.
The last of 13 children, she was born June 25, 1915, in Northumberland, Pa., the daughter of Robert G. Hopewell and the fomer Jennie Sampsell. She married Dr. Ralph K. Rounds in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1944. She then was married to the late John A. Bresaz in 1954; he also preceded her in death Feb. 15, 1994.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from noon until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Northumberland, Pa. The Rev. John Phillips will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the ManorCare Health Center, Activities Fund, care of Monica Orgintano, 1008 Thompson St., Jersey Shore, PA 17740.
