WELLSBORO - Tioga Central Railroad's annual fall event, "Rail Days," returns next weekend, and will run Sept. 17-19.
After a hiatus of two years while the new owners of the railroad, the Myles Group, of Exton, made improvements to the excursion train, the event started by the previous owners is back with even more excursions than before, according to Myles Group spokesperson Noelle Owens.
"There will be unique excursions including the Hobo Special, photo run-bys of the passenger and freight trains, night photo opportunities, caboose rides, and speeder rides," Owens said.
The weekend kicks off with a trip up to Tioga and back on Friday night with dinner available onboard.
On Saturday morning, the first departure is a Cab Hop at 7:30 a.m.
Passengers will ride in a caboose and detrain at Middlebury Center for a photo opportunity of an old-time freight train with Cornell Brothers Feed Mill in the background.
There are four Cab Hops scheduled throughout the day departing at 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
All trips, with the exception of the Speeder Rides, will depart from Wellsboro Junction off Route 287. Speeder Rides will depart from Charleston Street in downtown Wellsboro.
Events continue Sunday.
The railroad has restored the interior of several cars. The table car, dining car and club car have all received fresh paint and new carpeting, along with some needed repairs.
