Genealogical society plans program about Victorian Christmas ornaments

November 18, 2010
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The Lycoming County Genealogical Society will hold a "Victorian Christmas Ornaments" program at 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room of the Thomas T. Taber Museum, 858 W. Fourth St.

The program is free and open to the public. The presentation is the same day as the Victorian Christmas House Tour.

Thomas R. Deans of Milton will discuss and have on display some of his large collection of antique Victorian ornaments, which he and his wife have been collecting for more than 39 years. Each holiday season, the Deans put up at least 14 trees of various themes in their home.

Deans, a planning consultant, also has an interest in ephemera, particularly the old printing techniques of early "turn of the century" postcards. He is a member of the Union County Historical Society, which was founded by his father. He also wrote the book, "The Story of County - Union County, 1813-1963" to commemorate the sesquicentennial of Union County.
