Penn State Cooperative Extension of Lycoming County holds annual dinner

Penn State Cooperative Extension of Lycoming County recently held its 96th annual meeting and dinner at Pennsdale Trinity United Methodist Church.

Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Charlie Lowry, of Montgomery, who also is chairman of the Board of Directors. Commissioner Ernie Larson introduced special guests. Norma Zeisloft gave the invocation. A roast turkey dinner was served by members of the church.

Following dinner, a business meeting was held including minutes of the 2009 meeting, financial report, and election of a new board member. Jeanne Anstadt was elected to begin a term on Jan. 1.

Tom Styer, of Muncy, a farmer who has been very active in the Cooperative Extension and 4-H for several years, was presented the Helen Fry Award by Fry's daughter Sue Keller. Fry was a longtime participant in extension programming and the award is given to a key volunteer and supporter of extension.

The keynote speaker was Anna Falat, CEO of Eagle Rock Winery in Williamsport. Her topic was "Entrepreneurship." She spoke about her ownership of other businesses and her ability to navigate in a competitive marketplace.

Evelyn Simmons and the Teen Council presented awards to Friends of 4-H who were listed in the program: 4-H County Council, Ernestine Beach, Rod and Ann Fry, Vicki Lewis, Lions Club of Newberry, Lycoming/Sullivan Chapter of Thrivent, Bill and Doris Messersmith, Harry Plankenhorn Foundation, Evelyn Simmons, Snyder Foundation, Springs Window Fashions, Susquehanna Bank and Tractor Supply.

Also recognized were supporters of the Lycoming County 4-H Scholarship Fund: 4-H County Council, 4-H Development Fund, Steve and Sue Bartlett, Bastress Community 4-H Club, Chief Oil and Gas LLC 4-H Endowment, Jerry DeMorat, Friends of 4-H, Koppers, Inc., Dick and Maralyn Lloyd, Lycoming County 4-H Endowment, Jerry and Joyce McCarty, Tom and Marianne Mulfinger, Muncy Bank and Trust Co., Evelyn Simmons, and the Youth Livestock Committee.

Alice Girven received her 45-year leader pin. Meritorious Service Award winners for 2010 were Ron and Jen Buck.

Extension Board members are Lowry, Alice Girven, vice president; Ruth Lundy, secretary; Elizabeth Downey, treasurer; and Ray Marshsalek, Steve Peterman, Dean Ely, Norma Zeisloft, Ernie Larson, Russ Reitz, Angela Cicioni, Jean Hammond and State Rep. Rick Mirabito, D-Williamsport.
