The Lock Haven University ROTC commissioning ceremony took place on Dec. 11 in Sloan Auditorium. The official party consisted of Lt. Col. Joseph Loren, professor of military science, and Dr. Barbara Dixon, LHU president.
At the ceremony, Robert M. Marzzacco, of Hughesville, and Terrance L. Richards Jr., of Philadelphia, were commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.
Marzzacco will attend basic officer leaders course training in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Richards will attend basic officer leaders course training in Fort Gordon, Ga.
Navy Seaman apprentice Derek R. Llewellyn, son of Robert L. and brother of Darren J. Llewellyn, of Williamsport, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Llewellyn completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations." The exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly "Navy'' flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
Llewellyn is a 2005 graduate of Williamsport Area High School.
Navy Seaman recruit Harry R. Shuey, son of Deborah J. and Robert L. Shuey, of Montgomery, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Seaman apprentice Cain M. Long, a 2007 graduate of Muncy Senior High School, Muncy, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
Air Force Airman Joseph M. Folk, son of Beverly Confair, of Jersey Shore, and Leonard Folk of Avis, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate's degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He earned distinction as an honor graduate.
Folk is a 2008 graduate of Jersey Shore Area High School.
Army Pfc. Raymond W. Alexander III, son of Raymond and Wanda Alexander, of Jersey Shore, graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
Alexander is a 2007 graduate of Jersey Shore Area High School.
