Bipartisan without reason

January 8, 2011
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Why is the Democrat idea of "bipartisan" only when a Republican caves in to their side? Not a single Democrat voted against their stupid START treaty, along with exactly two-thirds of Republicans voting against it. The exactly one third, Mr. Bassett, who wrongly voted in the Democrats' favor, were I'm sure establishment Republicans like Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, whose days in the Senate are numbered. It is neither good nor bad to have bipartisanship, if the legislation is necessary. This particular piece of junk is absolutely non-essential: The Russians are not those with whom we need to be making these kinds of deals.

Let's try North Korea, Iran and other real enemies, not the straw dog of Russia. This, like most of the inanities and asininities passed during the now departed Congress, is bad legislation. Hopefully the new Congress will do better.

And it's the many now departed Democrats who knew this to be bad policy who are in need of chastisement much more than any Republican. That's what the election was about, and why there should never be a lame-duck session of Congress.
