Stalking awareness event begins this week at LHU
LOCK HAVEN - Lock Haven University's Campus Violence Prevention Program will present an awareness event titled "Stalking 101" this week.
The poster presentation will highlight stalking laws, campus and community resources, stalking facts and cyberstalking. The presentation will focus on Internet stalking, specifically how obsessive use of Facebook may potentially lead to cyberstalking.
Stalking is an issue that tends to be overlooked, when in reality college students are one of the groups most vulnerable to it.
"People tend to think of a stalker as a creepy person hiding in the bushes," said Jennifer Bodnar, director of the CVPP. "In reality, contacting someone two or more times in an unwanted manner may be illegal."
Student intern Stephanie Quinn said, "With the increase usage of technology, it is important that students recognize when use of social networking sites becomes criminal activity."
The awareness table will be located inside Bentley from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Wednesday and on the first floor of Raub from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday.
