Wascher’s: Chiropractic care is for everyone

The family heading up Wascher's Chiropractic Center, 1905 Mill Lane, Williamsport, hopes to spread the word that chiropractic care is for everyone, at all ages and in all states of health. While the Waschers have been in business for over 40 years, they constantly are stressing this message.

"We'd like to have the community understand what chiropractic is... and have it be a part of their wellness plan," said Barbara Wascher, office manager.

Barbara's husband, Williamsport native Dr. David Wascher, has been practicing since 1970 and in that time the center has expanded into a family business: the staff now includes son Dr. Damon Wascher, chiropracter; daughter Dawn Naugle, certified massage therapist; and daughter Dana Naughton, X-ray technician.

Barbara Wascher said she believes the business's success comes from a combination of experience and a family-oriented atmosphere.

"It's our family serving your family," she said. "We see a lot of families."

Chiropractic is recommended "for everyone from birth to death," she added. "We see infants. Chiropractic helps with pregnancy. We also do wellness."

Chiropractic is sometimes still thought of by the general public as strictly an injury treatment service, but "it's more than that," she said.

The Waschers typically recommend wellness visits once per month or once every six weeks for injury-free patients. The exact recommendation varies with the patient's level of daily activity. Wellness visits can keep a patient's spine properly aligned and improve the effectiveness of the immune system.

For those patients who are experiencing illness or injury, Wascher's Chiropractic Center offers a thorough examination, diagnostic testing and a variety of solutions for patients suffering from back and neck pain, work or auto injuries, pinched nerves or disc injuries. Patients can undergo a full chiropractic exam as well as surface EMGs (electromyography, or a study of muscle activity through the skin), thermography (a method of detecting nerve impingements) and X-rays. The doctors examine spinal structure, posture and other factors to determine the root of the patient's problem and offer solutions varying from specialty pillows and back supports to orthotics, in addition to performing spinal adjustments and massage.

The services offered have remained the same for years, but the family has made one recent change: Wascher's Chiropractic Center now has a website, offering information to potential patients, at www.wascherchiropracticcenter.com.

The Waschers serve patients in Lycoming, Tioga, Clinton, Sullivan and Union counties. New patients and families are welcome. For more information, call 326-3393.
