In the spring of 1973, Mike Fiamingo was one of 12 children when his family moved to Mansfield to start a moving business that is known today as Fiamingo Moving and Storage.
The business started out as a father and his three sons moving local families and businesses, but has now turned into a global business with five different locations, including locations in Hornell, New York; Churchville, New York; Harrisburg; Mansfield; and the Williamsport location at 25 Maynard St.
"We now have about 50 to 60 full-time employees, nearly 35 trailers, 15 tractors and 25 straight trucks," Fiamingo said. "We have over 100,000 square feet of warehouse space available for storage, as well."
Fiamingo's, which is an agent for Graebel Van Lines, will help move people and businesses local or long-distance. The storage building is available for customers who may be building a house and need to store their belongings, according to Fiamingo.
"Basically, we will move anyone across the street, across the pond, or overseas," Fiamingo said. "We can move one piece, the whole house, you name it!"
The business is fully licensed and insured, providing free estimates, 24-hour residential and commercial service, wrapping and packing, as well as quality equipment, according to Fiamingo.
Fiamingo said his business makes at least 1,000 or more moves in one year. Some days they may not have any customers, but other days they may have up to five moves just in one day, he said.
"We could work an eight or ten-hour day, but most of the time, our days vary," Fiamingo said. "We are open Monday through Friday and weekends by appointment."
The main goal of Fiamingo's, and also the business' slogan, is "a family business moving families." Fiamingo runs the business along with his brothers, and they tend to look at things as a family, he said. Their plan is to help make the moving transition as easy as possible on the family.
"Moving is stressful next to death, divorce and poverty - it's like taking all your belongings from you," Fiamingo said. "The idea (here) is to make the transition as smooth and easy as possible for the shipper."
The business provides service to the best of their abilities, and they try to meet their customers' every needs, according to Fiamingo.
"If a customer is worried or concerned about anything, they can make us aware of it," Fiamingo said. "They don't need to hire three or four different people to help them move - we are a one-stop shop."
With the available storage space they offer, customers can store their belongings and then have them shipped to them at their new location, according to Fiamingo.
"We can store, ship it out, we can do it all," Fiamingo said.
Fiamingo makes it their top priority to deliver efficient worry-free moving at a very affordable price by making sure each move is planned and coordinated according to the movers' needs, Fiamingo said.
"Fiamingo can be trusted to handle your move quickly, efficiently, safely and economically," Fiamingo said. "Fiamingo Moving is licensed, bonded and insured for your peace of mind."
Fiamingo said he has always enjoyed working hard, and he enjoys the chances to travel and see the world by running his moving business.
"I've been all over the country more than once, and I've been to every state besides Alaska and Hawaii," Fiamingo said. "I've been to Canada, and I often spend my weekends traveling and checking things out. I get to see the country, and I get paid to do it!"
