Israel is being set up for another war.
A so-called "Freedom Flotilla II" is being planned for late in May, just weeks away. Their plan is to arrive with more ships than last year, and with the support of protesters from many nations we think of as our friends. Israel will, of course, attempt to stop such an inflammatory attempt to breech the blockade. They routinely inspect all ships for rockets and weapons used to attack Israel. After inspection, food and humanitarian supplies are allowed through for the people in Gaza; there is no Gazan humanitarian crisis, as is widely misreported.
The flotilla is another provocation, an attempt to incite an uprising, and an attempt to inflame world opinion against Israel with distorted propaganda. No matter how Israel responds to the flotilla, something will happen. Even if they did nothing, a suicide bomber in the flotilla could cause enough uproar to excite all the international news reporters: Rather than report a bomber, they would report that Israel bombed the flotilla. A later retraction with the true facts would probably never be issued. More condemnation of Israel could easily lead to U.N. action to "protect" the Gazans.
We joined with the U.N. and entered Libya to protect the freedom fighters from a brutal dictator. A test of their new "responsibility to protect" doctrine. Suppose the U.N. decides that the Gazans need "protection" from Israel? Does America, under that doctrine, attack Israel? Israel asked the U.N. to help block the flotilla. I doubt any help would be forthcoming, especially given the U.N. has a long record of being against Israel.
Where is our leadership in Washington? Why hasn't our President said, "Don't worry Israel. We'll send a few of our ships and stop the flotilla before they get to you"? Why hasn't he forcefully told the world, "Don't provoke our Israeli friends by supporting this flotilla. We don't approve of it, and we won't allow it to start another war with Israel"?
Write to our senators and representatives and urge them to support Israel. We must support Israel, because we do what's right: We help our friends and brothers.
