Benton student earns honor
Senior Samantha Clasen of Benton, a Spanish and psychology major, was inducted into Phi Sigma Iota honor society at Lycoming College.
Phi Sigma Iota Foreign Language Honor Society recognizes scholastic achievement in foreign languages. There are about 250 chapters of Phi Sigma Iota at institutions of higher learning in the United States, Mexico and France.

The following local students were inducted as members of Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society at Lycoming College: senior Corie Beeler of Selinsgrove, a psychology major; Matthew Hill of Williamsport, a teaching certification candidate; Timothy Hobbs of Williamsport, a teaching certification candidate; senior Taylor Loedding of Williamsport, a history major; Jan Mordan of Muncy, a teaching certification candidate; recent graduate Eric Smithgall of South Williamsport, a mathematics major; Bobby Jo Springman of Pennsdale, a teaching certification candidate; and recent graduate John VanKirk of Muncy, a political science major.
SusQ-Cyber Charter School
gives awards to graduates
BLOOMSBURG - On June 3, the SusQ-Cyber Charter School Class of 2011 held its graduation ceremonies during which 54 students graduated and received awards.
Alexis R. Sones of Warrior Run School District received the Outstanding Effort Award for Acceleration of Program.
Sadie Jo M. George of Sullivan County School District received the Commitment Award for Outstanding Effort in Completion of Program.
Lycoming students honored
The following local students were inducted as members of the Pennsylvania Omicron Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta at Lycoming College: Kevin Daugherty of Hughesville, a junior biology major; and Jessica Lehman of Bloomsburg, a junior biology major.

JERSEY SHORE - The National Society of High School Scholars announced that Jersey Shore Area High School student, Breanna L. Mumma from Jersey Shore, has been selected for membership.
The society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved academic excellence.
Membership in NSHSS entitles qualified students to enjoy a wide variety of benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, member only resources, publications, participation in programs offered by educational partners, online forums, personalized recognition items and publicity honors.
Other awards Mumma has received over the years include the President's Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, the Good Citizenship award from the state senator, distinguished honor rolls awards and an essay she wrote won the DARE award. She teaches Sunday school and has started a children's choir in her church.
She is the daughter of Harry and Diane Mumma.
