BARBOURS - A Route 87 motorcycle ride among family members turned tragic Sunday when an area woman was killed in a collision with another vehicle southwest of here.
Karen S. Gowin, 54, of New Albany in Bradford County, died at the Plunketts Creek Township scene of the 4:10 p.m. crash near the intersection of Lower Manor Road, state police Trooper Jeff Vilello said.
As he continued to investigate early Sunday evening why Gowin crashed, Vilello determined she swerved the Harley-Davidson she was driving into the opposing lane, where she struck an oncoming SUV driven by a Forksville man.
"The motorcycle was northbound on Route 87 and the SUV was southbound," Vilello said. "It appears the motorcycle turned into the southbound lane for unknown reasons and struck the SUV in the side."
It was the driver's side struck on the SUV, a GMC Terrain, in which the driver and three passengers were not injured.
They were all from Forksville traveling to the Williamsport area.
Police said Gowin was the middle driver in a pack of three motorcycles, all traveling north with a considerable amount of distance among them.
Gowin was on the motorcycle alone.
She was wearing a helmet, investigators at the crash scene said.
