One of the newest members of the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce brings a new approach to buying insurance.
Essenture Workplace Benefits, operated locally by Fred Reeder at 25 W. Third St., is a part of a larger marketing group based in New Castle and has access to multiple insurance carriers through a single point of contact.
Reeder had been a single carrier insurance agent for several years before joining the group at the beginning of the year.
Though Essenture's business model is relatively new in the employee benefit insurance market, he said it is catching on quickly.
According to Reeder, the group was in 20 states at the beginning of the year. Six months later it is in 38 states with plans to be in 49 by year's end.
His own business, which includes two associate agents in Lock Haven and Pottsville, has seen a 20-percent growth since January.
Much like the local hardware store taking on the national brand of True Value, he said the marketing group increases the buying power of each partner business.
That power translates to savings for his clients.
Reeder will sit down with each client to determine their voluntary employee benefits needs. After the meeting, he takes the information and shops insurance providers to get the best prices for the client.
The new approach is more competitive and more economical for the client.
"It saves them time and money," Reeder said. "It allows them to focus on their business rather than shopping for insurance."
He said finding the right policy can be time consuming and difficult for a single business, especially a small business, but he can do the leg work for them and provides an overview of each available product for them to choose.
Switching from the single carrier business model, Reeder said it helps him better meet the needs of his clients and know he is giving them the best product for their money.
"I know in my heart I'm giving the best products and services to my clients," he said. "I like helping people. We don't just sell the insurance."
Because he can spend more time with each client, the process allows him to build lasting relationships and friendships with his clients. He also is the point of contact for the client at the time of claim.
"It's satisfying to be able to reassure a client after an accident," he said.
Joining the chamber is another avenue for Reeder to help other businesses in the Pennsylvania and New York area while developing his own.
"I wanted to be tied in more to the businesses here," he said. "It's a great way to get in front of local businesses and help grow my own."
