For Kelly Masteller, opening her hair studio meant she was finally ready to use her experience to own her own shop.
She took her seven years of experience and opened Masteller & Co. Hair Studio, 236 Basin St., about two months ago.
"We've been very busy so far," Masteller said. "We've have bridal parties and birthday parties. It's a little bit of everything. Summer is busiest because of vacations and weddings."

The bridal parties at Masteller & Co. involve helping the wedding party get ready for the wedding, and includes champagne.
"It's fun to be pampered," Masteller said.
The shop can also be rented out for birthday parties. A few weeks ago, Masteller said there was a birthday party for a 14-year-old girl and her friends. All of the girls had their hair and nails done.

Masteller & Co. strives for individualization with customers.
"What separates us, me and my girls, is we get to know our customers," Masteller said. "We go the extra mile."
Her favorite part of working with hair and nails is that almost all of her customers have become her friends.
The attention is part of the reason Masteller said the business has been so successful. By maintaining close relationships, her customers, and her two employees' customers, followed them to their new shop.
Masteller said she has kept some of her customers from when she started beauty school years ago.
Her goal is to help women relax.
"For a lot of people, (getting their hair and nails done) is a luxury," Masteller said. "And for most moms, it's their hour to unwind."
Masteller & Co. focus on just hair and nails because Masteller said she worked in a lot of salons where they "did too much."
Within the hair and the nails, the employees can do a lot of different things.
"We do all areas of hair: cuts, color, perms and strengthen it," Masteller said.
For nails, the women do manicures, pedicures, spa manicures, spa pedicures, and prescription nails. Something different that the shop does is a gelish manicure. Three different coats are applied and it can last up to 21 days.
"It's for people who are very hard on their nails," Masteller said. "It's good for nurses."
She also said that people who like showing off their nails while working with paperwork like to get it done.
To prepare for the Little League World Series, one of Masteller's employees is working on nail art for the event.
So far, Masteller has been advertising through her website, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, referral programs and word of mouth.
