Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Elder law attorneys Jeffrey A. Marshall, Matthew Parker, Kevin Grebas and Brenda Colbert from the law firm of Marshall, Parker & Associates presented at the 14thAnnual Elder Law Institute in Harrisburg on July 28 and 29. Known as one of the premier elder law conferences in the country, nearly 450 attorneys attended the two-day institute, a news release said.

Marshall kicked off the event by co-presenting the plenary session which is designed to provide an expert overview of the most important legislative, regulatory and case law changes impacting Pennsylvania seniors over the last year. Colbert, a member of the Northeast PA End-of-Life Coalition, co-presented with palliative care physician, Dr. Nicholas Giordano, on end-of-life issues and the state's new POLST paradigm. She addressed the practical ramifications attorneys should consider when executing advance directives with their clients. Parker and Grebas both taught advanced level courses on planning techniques available for married couples who are facing long-term care costs. Parker, a nationally known expert on how to protect community spouses after his victory in the annuity-based planning case of James v. Richman, presented a session on "Practical Calculations for Using Annuities and Notes in Medicaid Planning."

Grebas' session focused on what types of advanced planning options can be used to maximize the protections available to a spouse who continues to live in the community.

The Law Firm of Marshall, Parker & Associates is a nationally recognized leader in elder law and estate planning for seniors and Marcellus Shale landowners. It provides services to its clients from four offices located in Williamsport, Jersey Shore, Scranton and Wilkes-Barre.
