Mr., Mrs. Russell W. Branton observe 50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Russell W. Branton, Montoursville, observed their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 20, 2011. They were married by the Rev. Moore at Zion United Methodist Church, Pen Argyl.

Mrs. Branton, the former Marlene Hughes, is the daughter of the late Geneva Cartwright Hughes, Pen Argyl, and Robert L. Hughes, Williamsport. She graduated from Pen Argyl High School and West Chester University and received graduate degrees from East Stroudsburg University and Lehigh University. She taught school for 30 years in the Pen Argyl School District, retiring in 1999 as the director of reading.

Mr. Branton, the son of the late Lucille Sweet Branton and Charles Branton, Pen Argyl. He graduated from Pen Argyl High School, Gettysburg College and the University of Pittsburgh School of Physical Therapy. He worked in the Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton areas for 40 years before retiring from Liberty Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2004.

They are the parents of three sons, Christopher and Colin Branton, South Williamsport, and Shawn Branton, Antes Fort. There are six grandchildren.

In honor of their anniversary, a dinner is being planned at the Williamsport Country Club. The couple will take a cruise on the Danube River in Germany, Austria and Hungary.
