Sergeant Nathan A. Matthews, 25, who served in Iraq and was currently stationed in Fort Riley, Kan., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, in Kansas.
He is survived by his mother, Gale L. Matthews of Berrysburg, Pa.; three brothers, Donald Bryan of Millersburg, Pa., Douglas Bryan of York and Zachary Matthews of Berrysburg; a sister, Brandy Matthews of Williamsport; an uncle and aunt, whom he was raised by, Retired Chief Petty Officer John H. and Ruby Jarrett of York, with their children, Lydia M. Hiras-Putman of Ft. Lewis, Wash. and Kara M. Hiras of York, Pa.; fiancee, Miss. Allison D. Hoskinson of Kan.; brother-in-law, Sergeant Phillip Putman of Ft. Lewis, Wash.; two nephews, Malachi Matthews of Williamsport and Xavier Putman of Ft. Lewis, Wash.; and four nieces, Cheyanne Bryan of Millersburg, Azalea Dir of York, Zoey Gurvich and Ellieonya Putman, both of Ft. Lewis, Wash.
Nathan was predeceased by his father, Neil Welshans.
He is dearly loved and missed by his family, friends and soldiers, with whom he proudly served.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, Pa. Interment will follow in Montoursville Cemetery, with full Military Honors. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
A celebration of life will be held at the Eugene Grafius American Legion Post No. 104, Montoursville, following the funeral.
