Beginning Friday, free permits will be available for hunting on selected days on portions of the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority watershed.
The authority's watershed will be open for four days of deer hunting on Dec. 3, 8, 9 and 10 and one day of bear hunting on Dec. 3. No other hunting is allowed on the property at any time.
Hunters must obtain and be in possession of a valid 2011 hunting permit issued at the authority office, 253 W. Fourth St. Hunters must supply their valid 2011 Pennsylvania hunting license number in order to apply for the permit. Parents must co-sign for children under age 18 and may apply for and pick up permits for their children under 18 by bringing the child's valid 2011 hunting license.
Maps of the restricted areas and designated hunting and parking areas will be provided with the permits.
Those wishing to take an antlerless deer also must have a state Game Commission Wildlife Management Unit 4D antlerless license or a DMAP harvest permit for the authority property (Unit 775), of which a limited number are available.
The watershed is open daily to visitors prior to the hunting season from sunrise to sunset by signing in at the Water Filtration Plant visitor parking lot at the end of Mosquito Valley Road and observing the posted visitor use rules.
The watershed will be closed to visitors on Nov. 19, 21, 22, 23 and Nov. 28 to Dec. 10, except on Sundays. Only hunters with authority hunting permits will be allowed in the watershed on Dec. 3, 8, 9 and 10.
