Area Agency on Aging meet and greet slated

September 21, 2011
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

LAPORTE - The Area Agency on Aging will hold a public "Meet and Greet Event" from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Sullivan County Elementary School.

Light refreshments will be provided. The purpose of the event is to provide the public an opportunity to learn about Area Agency on Aging services, opportunities to assist the AAA in meeting the needs of older persons in Sullivan County, and to meet our staff.

The AAA is a nonprofit organization designated by the state to provide social and nutrition services to individuals age 60 and older in Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Tioga counties.

Its mission is to promote the independence and healthy lifestyles of older persons so they may continue to live independently in their own homes.

As a nonprofit, the AAA offers opportunity for individuals and businesses to engage as community partners for financial support of aging programs and services.

The 2010 Census Data indicates that 33 percent of Sullivan County's population is now 60 years of age and older, and the older population is one of the fastest growing segment's of the county, increasing by 14 percent over the past 10 years.

And as the population growth outpaces the resources available for services, the AAA is looking to develop relationships to enhance our ability to meet the local needs of our senior population.

For more information, contact the Area Agency on Aging at 800-982-4346. Reservations are encouraged by Sept. 29.
