October 9, 2011
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

WELLSBORO - Byron Sands, a professional photographer, will present the program, "The Science of Digital Photography," at 7 p.m. Tuesday during the next meeting of The Grand Canyon Photography Club at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center, 134 Main St.

Sands will discuss camera basics, including capture modes, lens, shutter, aperture, ISO and the interrelationship between them. He also will discuss digital lenses and digital sensors, how they work, what "field of view crop" means and why that matters, as well as color spaces, white balance and color temperature and how they apply to images.

His presentation will cover digital image formats and what the digital photographer needs to know about preserving images.

Sands earned the Professional Photography Certificate of the New York Institute of Photography and spent more than three decades in technology and digital imaging.

He has active professional memberships in PPA, Senior Portrait Artists and the Northeast Pennsylvania Professional Photographers.

Visitors are welcome to attend the club meeting. Refreshments will be served. For more information about the club, email Suzan Richar at president@gcphotoclub.org.
