A need in the gas industry for manufactured studs prompted a business owner to start an additional business to fill it.
Tracy Heiser began Heiser Stud Manufacturing and Supply Co., 802A W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport, in October because she saw the gas industry shipped a lot of studs from Texas.
"We can do it on the spot, cut to order and made to order," Heiser said. "There's a high demand for them. When they need these products, they need them yesterday."

Many different sizes of studs are needed, depending on use. Heiser said there is no minimum for the amount of studs ordered.
"We can do as many as they want," she said.
The time it takes to make the studs varies on how many are ordered, but Heiser said typically they can produce 100 studs in half an hour.

If the business continues to grow as it has so far, Heiser wants to expand to Ohio and possibly North Dakota.
"In two to three years, I either want to move this or open a fresh stud manufacturing company there."
Heiser Supply began in 1994 with her father, Thomas Heiser. She became a partner with him in 1998. She has run the business with her mother, Kay, since 2000.
"It's a mom and pop shop," Heiser said.
The employees so far are her parents, a secretary and one man who runs the machines, which Heiser also does. She said she expects to hire more people in the next few months as the business continues to grow.
Even though the company is busy, Heiser said she still expected it to be busier at first.
"The flood put everything on hold for everybody," she said. "Including getting our machines."
The shop utilizes two Marvel saws that are completely programmable.
"I touch a couple of buttons, pick the size and cuts, press go and it goes," Heiser said.
After the studs are cut, a Chamfer machine takes the cut piece, cleans it and puts a nut on either side.
Business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but the stud business is 24 hours a day.
"They can call my cellphone anytime and I will come to make studs," Heiser said. "These guys work 24 hours a day. The only way to help business grow is be there when they need it. I've been here Friday night at 7 p.m. and Saturday morning."
